Thuggin With Madlib & Freddie Gibbs

Stones Throw Records’ resident weedhead and beat junkie Madlib has teamed up with Indiana bluntmaster Freddie Gibbs to record what may be the stoniest EP of all time. Today saw the release of the music video for ‘Thuggin’ in which Gibbs robs a house, buys guns, and is just generally a boss. A full length collaborative album between Madlib and Gibbs is due out later this year but for now you can download the full tape for free here.

NVRMND Clothing’s “No More Roses Nor Pretty Patterns – NMRNPP” Collection Lookbook

Shout-out to your favorite spiritual entity, because NVRMND’s third season is almost ready. As always, we (especially Mr. Bato) poured ourselves into this season, and have traded quantity for quality. However, this time we’ve opted for a more clean cut yet casual look, aiming towards producing clothes that keep you at that happy middle-ground between looking like an overdressed dickhead and an underdressed mouth-breather. We’re sick of overdone flamboyance, and have decided that it’s time for some understated class to makes its way back onto the scene.

To start us off we have the the Rect-Logo Hoodie. It’s more comfortable than your favorite comfy sweater, but unlike yours, this one doesn’t make you look like a trashbag person. Made from 100% cotton, these hoodies have a huge center pocket, great for secure transportation of your school supplies or 40 ouncer, and extra long drawstrings that, in a pinch, can be used for chocking out assailants/victims. They come in three different colorways: gray (pictured above), black (pictured below) and burgundy (not pictured). Also note our Raw Denim pants, one of our proudest releases to date.

The black color way of the Rect-Hoodie is an ideal choice for those low profile  It has the slimming qualities that come with black clothing, meaning no more feeling self-conscious about how chunky you look when you’re high at your local 7-Eleven stuffing bags of hamburger flavored chips up your shirt (it’s cool, we don’t judge).

One of the simpler pieces of the new season, our straight cut t-shirt is made from imported french terry cloth. This thing retains heat like a champ, and the inside of it feels like skinned baby seals without any of the guilt.

Next we have our  Micro Houndstooth button-up, coupled with the NMRNPP raw denim jeans in black. Both are perfect examples of what we were going for in this season, and while at first glance you might think that they appear simple, once you have them on you’ll quickly change your mind.  At first the jeans may feel a bit like testicle crushers, but that’s simply because they’re raw denim and they need to be broken in, and once that happens you won’t want to take them off. The indigo pair are made of italian raw denim, and the black pair are made from black raw bull denim.

We now come to the Polka button-up, which is a personal favorite of mine from the new season. I know what you’re thinking: “Oogie, I look like too much of a goon to wear this shirt.” Which is simply wrong. Anyone can pull this bad-boy off. In fact, the shirt compensates for your mediocre looks by emphasizing your suave characteristics, and the thick material and long sleeves hide any unsightly skin conditions you might have. They’re also made of 100% cotton, so they won’t add to any irritation you have.

Lastly we have our raw finish fleece top in black. This piece is crazy soft. How soft you ask? Think Asher Roth, minus that whole “embarrassingly bad” thing he has going on. It’s great for layering up on those colder days, or to hide your ugly/dirty clothes underneath.

All joking aside, we’re truly grateful that we’re still making clothes for you guys. A little over a year ago we had our first release, and it’s thanks to your support that we’ve been able to continue doing what we love. So thanks.

Follow NVRMND on twitter, like our Facebook page, and be sure to keep an eye on the store in the next few days. It’ll be reopening with the release of the new season, and we’ve been working on it for some time now.

Photo credit goes to Rakeem Cunningham, who shot for us at the Focus Studio. The clothes were modeled by the ever-handsome Tristan Antonii Walczak.

Alcan Highway Trailer

Alcan Highway, a documentary film made by Aleksi Salmenperä and produced by Ulla Simonen / MADE, tells the story of a 44-year old homeless man from Finland named Hese. Dubbed “a road movie of a mobile man with mobile plans,” it follows Hese on some of his travels in Alaska where he searches for a place to finally settle down. The trailer certainly looks promising, and I for one am looking forward to the film’s planned release in Spring 2012.

Time Lapse From Space // Viewing Earth

Okay, I know I post too many time lapse videos, but this one has to be top three in the “visually stunning” category. These photos were taken from August to October of 2011 from the International Space Station. They were supposedly taken from an altitude of around 350 kilometers above earth. Turn on the high definition, put the video in full-screen and watch:

SALEM Will Kill Everything You Love

As the godfathers of the new internet micro-genre of “Witch House”, SALEM makes some of the most dark, brutal, and distinctive music I have heard in a long time. Their sound is equal parts Chicago footwork, industrial, hip hop, goth and even R&B. The three members who make up SALEM live across the Midwest, collaborating only through email. Together, John Holland, Jack Donoghue, and Heather Marlatt combine the blown out boom bap production of John and Jack, ethereal singing by Heather and the chopped and screwed rapping from Jack.

While not the most accomplished lyricist, Donoghue has a compelling slowed down, pitched down, demon voiced rap. Its the type of murder music that Tyler, The Creator would make if he was speedballing and listening to Nine Inch Nails. Listen for yourself and tell me that SALEM is not the best soundtrack to your winter ketamine trips.

In addition to making their own original music, SALEM also produce the most awesome remixes of everyone from British goth-pop artist Charli XCX…

… to motherfuckin Gucci Mane.

Show SALEM some love and buy their album King Night. It does not disappoint. Also, check out their website for more videos and some of their fucking SICK mixtapes. Jack’s twitter is also boss. Follow him or die.

Bug Powered Generator

For your Saturday viewing pleasure we have for you a video made by Snapdragon (they make processors and shit). Basically they designed a circus themed generator the can be powered by bugs. They’re all real bugs, none of them are computer generated or faked by any means.

Visually it’s pretty cool, but I don’t know if I’d want a generator that could be eaten by cats…

The Second Time Around…

If you don’t know by now, The Black Keys are pretty hot shit around these parts. The Akron based blues rock duo went from relatively unknown to positive grammy winners in a few years. With definite creativity and drive under their belt they attempted a foray into a collaboration with hip hop artists that would shake up the music industry. Blues-rock + hip hop = BlakRoc. Go run now and buy it if it already wasn’t in your possession.

Like with any good band, the chain of success must keep going. Not because of label contracts or deadlines but because work wasn’t done when the first one dropped. So….

Yeah that’s a trailer for the recently announced sequel to the awesome. Damon Dash once again presides as swag overseer while Jim Jones makes a return. The Black Keys requested a whole crew of talented dudes…Curren$y, Wiz Khalifa, and The Cool Kids to name a few. If you aren’t anxious to hear what this would sound like then there’s definitely something wrong with you. Period. Get yourself checked out by medical professionals immediately. No set dates on its release yet but my best guess would put it as sometime early next year.
