“Cities” by Atelier Olschinsky

Atelier Olschinsky (“The Olschinsky Workshop”) is a joint venture of Peter Olschinsky and Verena Weiss, two graphic artists and designers based in Vienna. Started in 2002, Atelier Olschinsky is responsible for some of the best graphic design and illustration I’ve seen, period. Their understated motto is “It is just so important to work as much as you can, to learn and to be open to new things,” and this approach is definitely paying off for them. The images featured here are from their “Cities” series. If you like what you see be sure to check out their catalogue for more amazing pieces, as this represents just a small portion of their body of work. Prints of their art are available at their shop, and they also have a Facebook page where you can keep updated on their latest progress.

MOCA Presents: “Art In The Streets”

The Los Angeles Museum Of Contemporary Art is currently hosting an exposition dedicated to the great phenomenon that Street Art is. It really was about time that urban artist from all over the world actually got together to show everybody what they are all about. And what better city to do that if not Los Angeles? Come on, this city is pretty much the favorite canvas for all these street creative minds.

Many props to the MOCA for hosting the event as it shows the appreciation that we have for graffiti art and how influential it really is in modern culture. Artist include Fab 5 Freddy, Lee Quiñones, KAWS, Futura, Margaret Kilgallen, Swoon, RISK, Shepard Fairey, John-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, JR, Banksy, Mister Cartoon, Spike Jonze, Terry Richardson, Martha Cooper and Ed Templeton (+more): pretty good list uh? The expo will be at the MOCA until August 8th, so if you live in LA or are going to be visiting before then, make sure you go and check it out because it is definitely worth it, even life-changing for some (but maybe that’s just my opinion). To get you warmed up here some pictures from the past few days at the show; enjoy:

“Tonight I will be making graphics”: artist SK8THING

Street wear is getting more and more popular. Not only among skaters, or young people in general, but also in the higher class of the fashion world. Think Bape, BBC (Billionaire Boys Club) and Ice Cream, Alife or Supreme. Think how, since the early 2000s Japan, New York, London and Paris have been filled with kids that walk around with clothing full of colorful designs and graphics, jeans, and baseball hats.

One of the main pioneers of this movement is Japanese artist Sk8thing. Very reserved but extremely talented, Sk8thing has been “polluting” our visuals for the past 20 years or so, collaborating with mainstream skating and street wear brands. Head designer for both BBC and Bape, he allowed Harsh Patel to  to ask him a couple of questions in an interview.

Fuck a Google image search. FUCK THIS LIFE can hold its own no matter how big your ego. Legendary Low Life. Hysterical. Sensational. Authentic.

If your living room coffee table is still naked, i recommend buying “Eat Shit Die”. It’ll keep you entertained in watching you mom’s face when she comes over to visits you at your new apartment.

Kanye West X Civilization, “Power” Music Video

Ok, hate him or love him people cannot deny that Kanye has a good eye for art, fashion and design. From his Dee & Ricky accessory obsession, to the art of Takashi Murakami, or simply BAPE when only black people used to wear it. We could go on for ages on how he brought some artists and designers up to the level of popularity they are at now (Marc Jacobs anybody?).

One of Mr. West’s last last collaborations was with Italian film producer and director Marco Brambilla, and his project “Civilization”, which pretty much consists in a the editing of videos as “motion picture collages”.Here is some extracts from Brambilla’s work, which mostly represents post apocalyptic, or mystical scenery.
